Comments and Mentions

Discuss documentation in threads and mention contributors.

Documentation often sparks questions. Glyph attaches a comment thread to every documented file, scoped to the same (file, commit) pair as the documentation itself.

Adding a comment

In the documentation panel, scroll to the Comments section below the editor.

  1. Type your comment in the input.
  2. Use / to mention a contributor (auto-completes from the project's commit history).
  3. Click Post or press Enter.

Threaded replies

Each top-level comment can be replied to. Click Reply under any comment to thread the conversation. Replies are visually nested under their parent.

Mentions

Typing / in either the documentation editor or a comment opens a contributor picker:

  • Lists all Git commit authors of the project, sorted by commit count
  • Filterable by typing after the slash
  • Selecting one inserts @Name

Mentions are not yet wired to email notifications. They function as in-document tags - useful for ownership and visibility, but the mentioned person won't receive an email until that feature ships.

Comments are commit-scoped

A comment posted at commit abc123 is only visible when viewing the file at commit abc123. Switch to commit def456 and you see a different comment thread (or none).

This mirrors how documentation works - old conversations don't pollute current code reviews.

Editing and deleting

Each comment shows an actions menu with Edit and Delete for its author. Workspace admins can delete any comment.

Edits show an "edited" marker but no diff history.

Markdown support

Comments support a subset of Markdown:

  • **bold**, *italic*, ~~strike~~
  • `inline code` and multi-line code blocks
  • [link text](https://example.com)
  • > blockquotes

No images, tables, or HTML - comments stay lightweight.
